WTO DG Job: Okonjo-Iweala is Closer – Sources
Nigeria’s former Finance Minister and former World Ban Director General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has reached the final stage in the race to lead the World Trade Organisation.
As the tradition of the WTO has been, Yoo Myung-hee of South Korea is also in the final list of candidates for the position. Sources within the WTO say this is a first of its kind final lap in the for the trade body.
The selected candidate for the DG position will be officially announced tomorrow.
Its not very clear at the moment who has the upper hand as both parties have met the requirement to be where they are at the moment.
No woman has headed the position of DG WTO till date.
Recall that Okonjo-Iweala and Yoo’s candidacies received a boost earlier this week when EU member states officially threw their weight behind them.
