Ondo Elections: SDP candidate endorse Akeredolu, running mate backs Jegede
With less than 72 hours to the governorship election in Ondo State, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mr Peter Fasua, has thrown his support behind the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
The SDP candidate for the elections withdrew from the race not long after participating in the Peace Accord Meeting that took place on Tuesday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, and declared his support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
the support to the APC candidate and incumbent Governor of Ondo State came few hours after the Chairman of the SDP, Mr Dele Ogunbameru, in the company of the chairmen of 10 other political parties endorsed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Eyitayo Jegede.
Apart from not áhving a candidate for the upcoming elections, the SDP has also shared its support across the two main contenders for the Governorship elections in the state.
While officially announcing their support for the APC candidate Fasua, promised to put the entire SDP structure and supporters in the state to the service of the Akeredolu’s re-election bid. Fausa added that he was donating his campaign logistic equipment and other material to the governor’s campaign organisation.
The Governor promised to continue to provide for the needs of the people across the 18 Local Government Areas(LGAs) of the state if re-elected in the coming election.
In a related development, the deputy governorship candidate of the SDP, Mrs Rachel Ajayi, has formally endorsed the candidate of the PDP for the same elections.
Ajayi also dissociated herself from the decision taken by Fasua to support the APC candidate added that her support to the PDP candidate was the Party’s decision.
Ajayi also alleged that Fasua’s support to the APC candidate was entirely his decision and that Fausa had always acted as someone standing in the in for the APC throughout the electioneering period as he has never contacted her regarding election matters.
