There were 149.8 million Internet users in Nigeria in August – NCC
The Executive Vice Chairperson (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Umar Danbatta, has announced that Nigeria had 149.8 million internet users in the month of August 2020.
These recent statistics were made public by the commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Adinde, on Monday.
The spokesperson also added that the coming months will witness more users as economic activities pick up and more services become digitalized in the country.
He, however, pointed out that such moves to digitization will place a demand on individuals and organizations on the need to protect themselves and their transactions against cybercriminals.
The Commission announced it will commence series of enlightenment and awareness campaign activities to mark the year 2020 National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM).
The aim of the NCSAM globally is to raise awareness about cybersecurity, and to provide the public with general knowledge and tools required for online safety.
At the policy level, the Commission is driving massive efforts at pushing broadband penetration to as a tool to realize broad-based digital inclusiveness while ensuring the safety and protection of all users of the Internet against nefarious and dubious activities in the cyberspace.
