Appeal Court judgment: God is with my govt, says Diri
Bayelsa State Governor, Mr Douye Diri, says the Friday separate Court of Appeal victories in favour of him and his deputy, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, shows that God is with his government.
In a message issued by his acting Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah, praised the leadership of the Appallet court the Court of Appeal for sustaining the law and dispensing justice for all parties involved.
Recall that the Appallet court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, overturned an earlier ruling made on August 17, 2020 on the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, issuing a sack to the Diri lead State Government and asking for a fresh poll to be conducted within 90 days.
the ruling at the Appallet court was given by a five-man panel led by Justice Adezila Mshelia who unanimously set aside the tribunal’s verdict and affirmed Diri’s election in its judgment delivered on Friday.
The ruling in August was given by a three-man election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja had. The decision was issued by a split decision of two-to-one, upturning the November 16, 2019 Bayelsa State governorship on account of the exclusion of the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) unlawfully and its candidate, King George, from the exercise.
It was reported that Governor Diri was Dissatisfied with the judgment and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had filed separate appeals against it.
