Edo Election Results: Obaseki’s deputy Shaibu has lost LGA to OShiomhole
The current Deputy Governor and running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Edo gubernatorial election, Philip Shaibu, lost the election in his Local Government Area, Etsako west, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This development came as official results were being declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) early Sunday morning.
Based on results declared so far, PDP secured 17,959 votes while APC polled 26,140 votes.
However, the Governor is already in an early lead with more than 70,000 votes to his favour.
The immediate past governor of Edo State and ex-Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, hails from Etsako west.
INEC officials have announced that they witnessed only few instances of violence in the LGA.
At least 1.72 million persons were eligible to vote in the September 19, Edo governorship polls. Reports say just 1,726,738 registered voters collected their PVCs.
The election held in 18 Local Government Areas, 192 Wards, and 2,627 polling units.
A breakdown of voters in the three zones of the reveal that Edo South has the highest figure of 1,281,414; the North with 564,122; and Central senatorial district has 364,998.
