Ondo Elections: PDP and APC Supporters Clash In Ondo
Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the incumbent governor, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the October governorship election have had a clash at the Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
It was reported that supporters of both candidates were engaged in a gun battle in the town moments before the commencement of the scheduled campaign rally of the PDP candidate.
The incident left youths and supporters of both parties with injuries, while motorists ran for safety and several vehicles were vandalised in the process.
Samuel Fasua, Head, Media Research of Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation, had earlier stated that many of the members of the PDP campaign team were held hostage in the Palace while the clash continued.
He says at least five persons sustained varying degrees of injuries while at least three PDP branded campaign vehicles were also vandalised by the hoodlums.
He also added that the past fives days have come with one attack or the other from the opposition on the PDP campaign team.
However, in a swift reaction, the APC spokesperson for the Akeredolu campaign committee, Olabode Olatunde, alleged that the governor was on his campaign train to Ikare-Akoko when the PDP struck and attacked them.
He added that it was hoodlums loyal to the PDP candidate, that attacked the convoy of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), at Oba Akoko in Akoko southwest local government area of the state
