Assassination Attempt: They wanted to kill me – Ondo PDP Candidate says
Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 10, 2020 governorship election in Ondo State, says those who attacked his convoy on Wednesday had an “assassination attempt”.
Mr. Jegede disclosed this to journalists in his campaign office in Akure not too long after unidentified armed thugs attacked his campaign team in Oba Akoko town.
He said attack on his convoy had taken place during a visit to the palace of the Oloba of Oba Akoko moments before their planned campaign. They had heard sporadic gun shots while they were paying a courtesy visit at the palace which was close to a major road in the city.
He added that the PDP already had the permission and approval of the Commissioner of Police for the campaign to proceed.
The PDP candidate added that the attack on his convoy had been reported to the state’s Commissioner of Police and Director of the Department of State Services.
He also submitted that he would hold the opposition responsible for any danger that befalls him while asking the Inspector General of Police to immediately launch an investigation into the incidence.
