Fuel and Electricity prices: TUC threatens nationwide strike, protest Sept 23
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria plans to lead a nationwide protest against the hike in fuel and electricity prices if the Federal Government fails to reverse the hike in seven days.
The ultimatum was contained in a letter addressed to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and dated September 14, 2020.
The Union is also threatening to embark on an indefinite industrial action and national protest from Wednesday, September 23, 2020, if FG refused to reverse the increase in electricity tariff and petrol price.
The letter, entitled ‘We cannot bear the burden any longer, issuance of seven days ultimatum,’ was signed by its President, Mr Quadri Olaleye, and Secretary-General, Mr Musa Lawal.
The letter to the president reflected very many issue confronting the average Nigerian worker and the masses. The issue of non-compliance with negotiated and agreed upon terms of the minimum wage and the general suffering of the people of Nigeria were all raised in the letter.
