Despite financial crisis, Akeredolu purchases N1.2 billion cars for state lawmakers
The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has been criticized by the opposition over the purchase of 2020 model SUV KIA Sportage for members of the state House of Assembly as official vehicles.
The governor was said to have set aside about N1.18billion in the 2020 budget to enable the acquisition of vehicles for the House of Assembly.
The cars were received by the leadership of the house on Friday, just hours before the official take-off of the governorship campaign of the APC. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is alleging that the acquired vehicles were meant to win political advantage.
Seven members of the house who frustrated the impeachment move against the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, missed out of the car distribution.
The Governor justified his action by the fact that he wants to be seen as a public office holder who fulfills his promises to the people.
