Nigeria’s House of Representatives says it will investigate the North-East Development Commission over allegations that N100bn of the released funds are missing.

The resolution was made during the plenary on Thursday.

The resolution seeking the probe was contained in a motion moved by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, titled: ‘Need to Investigate the Alleged Sleaze and Misappropriation of N100bn at the North East Development Commission’.

Consequently, the House mandated its committees on Finance, Procurement and the NEDC to “exhaustively investigate these allegations and report back in eight weeks.”

Hon. Elumelu, in is remarks while reading the motion decried the situation in which an agency set up to ameliorate the sufferings of the people has since become a center for all sorts of corrupt dealings especially as regards massive contract splitting and flagrant disregard for the procurement laws in the award of contracts.
