Edo Elections: Obaseki and Deputy leave APC

The Governor and Deputy Governor of Edo State have resigned their membership of the All Progressives Congress.

Their resignation were made public via a press statement by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie, on Tuesday

The statement alluded to the outcome of the APC primaries in the state is the chief reason for the resignation. In the statement, the Governor and deputy Governor accused the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole of attempting to subvert the will of the people for the interest of a few.

The statement said his resignation letter was addressed to the Ward Chairman, APC Ward 11, Etsako West Local Government Area.

Recall that the party’s National Working Committee, had announced the disqualification of Obaseki’s on June 13 at during an Abuja news briefing.

According to Oshiomhole, the NWC had reviewed the two reports, which he reckoned that the that members of the committees were unanimous in their decisions which made the verdict convincing enough.

The appeal panel, headed by Prof. Abubakar Fari also upheld the outcome of the screening committee, while presenting the report to Oshiomhole at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has slated Sept. 19 for the governorship poll in Edo.
