COVID-19: NO more new cars for govt officials till 2025 – Namibian President
Namibia’s President Hage Geingob has put a ban on government officials buying new cars till 2025 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Geingob, made the announcement via his Twitter handle on Thursday, and added that the decision was inspired by the “difficult period of COVID-19.”
In a related development, the President also put a maximum limit on the amount that can be spent on fueling government vehicles per month.
By the statement, government officials were advised to maximize public resources and make the best out of the limited resources that the government is left with.
According to the President’s statement, he added that “Government spending has been reduced by 9%, annual travel and subsistence allowances have been cut by 62%”.
