Two Chinese arrested for offering N100m bribe – EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) Zonal Office in Sokoto has arrested two Chinese nationals by names Meng Kun and Xu Koi, for allegedly offering N100 million as bribe to cover a contract scam.
This information was contained in a statement signed by the Commission’S spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, who addedd that the suspects were arrested on Monday in Sokoto, with the cash as an evidence which they had offered to the Sokoto zonal head, Abdullahi Lawal.
The commission pointed that the bribe was allegedly offered in connection to an ongoing investigations of a construction company, China Zhonghao Nig. Ltd, as a prize to influence the outcomes of the investigation in the favour of the company. The contracts were awarded by the Zamfara State Government between 2012 to 2019 all related to the construction of township roads in Gummi, Bukkuyun, Anka and Nassarawa towns of Zamfara State.
In a related development, an investigation is also ongoing into the construction of 168 solar-powered boreholes across all 14 local government areas of Zamfara State.
The investigation was triggered by alleged conspiracy, embezzlement and money laundering against a number of Zamfara State officials involving the payments of over N41billion of which about N16 billion was reportedly diverted and eventually traced to some bureau de change operators”.
The Commission was alarmed at the affront on its integrity by the offer of the bribe to the Commission. The investigation is related to stealing and money laundering.
