Gambari’s reported appointment as Buhari’s CoS remains a rumor
Nearly 24 hours after news went viral on social media on the reported appointment of Prof. Ibrahim Gambari as a new Chief of Staff(CoS) to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the Presidency is yet to confirm the appointment.
Hours after the news got into the socila media on the appointment of the Prof. Ibrahim Gambari as a new Chief of Staff to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), there is yet no confirmation of this appointment by any of the Presidential media aides of the President.
The news of the reported appointment would have remained a rumor safe for the statement by Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, on Tuesday signed by his media aide, Abdulazeez Arowona expressing appreciation to the President for the decision to appoint Gambari as his new chief of staff.
Recall that an online news medium, TheCable, wrote, “Gambari to be unveiled as new chief of staff on Wednesday (today)”.
We can confirm that the Presidency is yet to make any official announcement either to confirm or deny the appointment, receiving the letter of appreciation made public by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari.
Both presidential spokespersons, Mr Femi Adesina and Mr Garba Shehu, made no confirmation as of 7:00am Wednesday 13th May 2020.
Shehu merely replied to an inquiry, writing, “I have not been briefed.”
Since the death of former CoS, Mr Abba Kyari, from complications associated with COVID-19 on April 17, the President is yet to announce a replacement.
When the PUNCH Newspaper reached out to officials in the palace, they said that the public appreciation that was made public was based on speculations in the public domain about the appointment of Prof. Gambari but there was yet no statement signed either by Femi Adesina or Garba Shehu to the confirmation of the said appointment.
