COVID-19: 70 youth defile lockdown arrive Oyo from Kano, Katsina, others
About 70 young Nigerians from the northern part of the country have attempted to sneak into Oyo State from Kano, Katsina, Zamfara and Kaduna States.
They were apprehended by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after travelling hundreds of kilometres through many other states, against the presidential ban on interstate travel. The travellers were intercepted in a trailer which arrived in Ogbomoso in the early hours of Wednesday, PREMIUM TIMES gathered.
The source, an official of the NSCDC who wants his name to be withheld since he was not authorized to talk to the media, said his agency is yet to get an order from the Oyo State Government on the next line of action which may include leading them out of the state.
On Tuesday, Governor Seyi Makinde threatened to arrest foreigners from other states who travel into Oyo State as one of the efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Officials of the state government have since confirmed that the 70 persons were intercepted in Ogbomosho and the state will issue a statement on the development soon.
President Muhammadu Buhari had put the ban in place by to check the spread of coronavirus across the country.
