Mass deaths in Kano came from COVID-19 – PTF
The Presidential Task Force on the COVID-19 has attributed the recent mass deaths recorded in Kano in to the CODID-19.
Recall that Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano State, had initially denied the recorded deaths were due to the COVID-19. He only made a U-turn on his stand after series of public out-burst on his claim.
after series of complaint, the Governor has agreed to Nigeria for the Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), to conduct a “verbal autopsy” to ascertain the cause of the deaths.
Sani Gwarzo, national coordinator of the presidential task force on COVID-19, was one of those who lost loved ones during the period that Kano recorded many deaths. While speaking the members of the public present, he urged people of Kano to brace up to the challenge of that the COVID-19 posses to the city and the country in general.
Sani Gwarzo made this plea while attending the official handing of the mobile testing laboratory the Aliko Dangote Foundation donated to Kano government.
As part of efforts at unraveling the cause of the sporadic deaths in Kano, Yusuf Yau Gambo, a lecturer at the department of mathematics, Yusuf Maitama Sule University in Kano, was among the first to link the deaths to COVID-19. He had conduct a public survey that showed that 43.1% of the deaths had been caused by the COVID-19 based on reported symptoms.
