We have 64 new COVID-19 cases- NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says there are now about 64 new COVID-19 cases across the country.

While no new death cases were recorded, the Center announced that 34 new cases were recorded in Lagos, 15 in Abuja, 11 in Borno and two each in Taraba and Gombe.

A total of 1,337 cases have now been confirmed by the NCDC around two months after the first case was recorded. Olorunnibe Mamora, minister of state for health, gave reasons for the recent increase in the number of cases of the COVID-19 in the country particularly Lagos State. Lagos State currently has the largest number of new cases in Nigeria. He made this known during a press briefing of journalists.

the continuous rise in then number of new infections is mainly due to the growing trend of community transmission of the the virus. This is leading to series of efforts by the government to identify likely contacts with infected patients of the virus. Another response is the scaling up of testing capacity across the country to meet the growing need for testing.

the COVID-19 has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the past two months.
