Abba Kyari almost became Obasanjo’s VP in 1999- Mamman Daura
Nephew to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mama Daura, has narrated the story of how Abba Kyari almost became the Vice Presidential Candidate of the People’S Democratic Party(PDP) in the 1999 presidential elections.
Recall that Abba Kyari recently died of the COVID-19 complications weeks after his official visit to Germany to represent the Federal Government of Nigeria in some power sector negotiations.
The 1999 presidential elections was mainly between Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo of the PDP and Olu Falae of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) which had huge following in the South-Western part of Nigeria.
In 2003, Abba Kyari was cut in opposition to Obasanjo as he had moved to an opposition party, the All Nigeria Progressive Party (ANPP) where he stood behind General Muhammadu Buhari as the party’s Presidential Candidate. Abba Kyari thereafter became a great pillar and source of support to General Muhammadu Buhari.
When a was appointed to the Office of Chief of Staff to the President in August 2015, he brought to the office all of his Cambridge education and wide range of experience in banking, industry, investment and journalism.
Abba Kyari is seem to have lived a very simple life with little public appearances safe for instances in which he was seen in the State House on official duties along side the President and other official of the Federal Executive Council.
